Master Mariner fg.
Born in Bremen, Cornelius’s fascination with ships and seafaring began from an early age. Naturally, he went on to study nautical science and marine engineering eventually earning his foreign going Master Mariner license. Over 20 years in the marine industry led to the successful founding of his own marine contracting company. In this role, he saw firsthand the negative impact humans are having on the marine environment. Realizing that it was time to act Cornelius initiated the Timbercoast project! In his words, “our work may look like a drop in the ocean, however we will persist and together we will be the tide that changes the marine transport industry!’

Shipping & Logistics
Born in the traditionally industrial Ruhr-District of West Germany, Thomas grew up surrounded by big industry. Growing up, his family enjoyed holidaying on the coast, exploring the harbours and gazing out onto the wondrous Ocean. His aquatic curiosities coupled with his industrial roots led to a flourishing career in the shipping industry. On the verge of retirement, Thomas found himself drawn to the Timbercoast initiative. In his own words "After learning about the Timbercoast project I was charmed by the radically different approach to shipping which ignores the biggest, cheapest and fastest mentality. Instead the focus is on the environment, the people and the financing to grow cargo under sail."
The heart of Timbercoast is the community. We've had more than 120 volunteers from all over the world come to Elsfleth to join the passionate locals that have dedicated countless hours of their time and energy to help bring the sustainable future of shipping to the world. These are some of their smiling faces!
