The cargo sailing vessel leaves the port of Hamburg on Saturday morning and sails across the Atlantic for the twelfth time to transport goods to us by sea in a climate-friendly way. It will first sail via France to the Canary Islands and then across the Caribbean to Colombia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fifteen crew members will spend the upcoming months on board the more than one hundred year old gaff-rigged schooner, experiencing sailing, living and working on a traditional merchant ship and growing together as a team. They come from England, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Mexico and form a diverse group with an age range from 20 to 74 years. Nine of the fifteen crew members on board the AVONTUUR are women.<\/p>\n

In addition to coffee from Colombia, this time the cargo ship is also carrying a household move to the Caribbean. In addition, art from the Olafur Eliasson studio is to find a climate-friendly way across the Atlantic to New York on the AVONTUUR.<\/p>\n

Around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, it’s time to cast off! The AVONTUUR will set sail from the wintering harbour in Hamburg-Harburg, where she was recently actively refitted for over a month for the next ten months under sail at sea. Along the S\u00fcderelbe we will then pass under the Kattwyk Bridge at around 12:30 pm. This will be followed by the K\u00f6hlbrand Bridge and the Oevelg\u00f6nne museum harbour on the way out onto the Elbe and out to sea. With the AVONTUUR, the company Timbercoast cargo under sail has been offering a clean transport alternative to conventional commercial shipping since 2014 and is bringing the natural resource of wind back into the awareness and focus of a fuel-based industry.<\/p>\n
