Get this, so you can do that.\u00a0 When you get that, do this.\u00a0 You earned that, so now do this.\u00a0 This is good, but you want that.\u00a0 Living, working and loving today is packaged in steps.\u00a0 All too often the skills and abilities of individuals are boxed into good or bad.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it\u2019s easier to believe someone\u2019s criticisms than it is to dismiss them.\u00a0 This might seem like a rant, because it is.<\/p>\n
Living amongst the Timbercoast volunteers, I am humbled by their willingness to share their dreams and aspirations with me.\u00a0 These are personal revelations and as such are discussed organically through topics of interest and curiosity.\u00a0 There are occasions when I can truly feel the liberation in the words spoken.\u00a0 I love it, it inspires me and strengthens my already overpowering belief in people.\u00a0 However, all too often it feels like they\u2019re telling me a secret\u2026\u00a0 And this makes me mad, real f*cking mad.<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\nIndividual prophecies are being buried under peer expectations and empty achievements.\u00a0 I\u2019m referring to the societal pressure to live within a certain set of norms and forced fed what\u2019s safe, normal or realistic.\u00a0 I\u2019ve watched people open up about their passions only to have those curiosities shattered by naysayers.\u00a0 Come on people, I know you\u2019re with me, let\u2019s encourage our fellow visionaries and open up a world of possibilities to those reaching out.\u00a0 Now, now I realize this sounds utopian but it doesn\u2019t take much.\u00a0 Next time someone genuinely confides in you about a university major, career path, a career change, a sabbatical, an interest or artistic outlet let\u2019s listen and encourage.<\/p>\n

<\/h3>\nThe Timbercoast team is currently scrapping paint and removing rust from the bowels of a 95 year old ship\u2026 it is 27\u00b0 outside 35\u00b0 in the ship, the fumes are overwhelming, they\u2019re working 8 hour days and they\u2019re doing it for free.\u00a0 There are parts of every job that suck, there are days when you question yourself and there are times of serious doubt.\u00a0 I am not saying runaway from these times, I\u2019m saying when someone is fully and completely absorbed in a calling, support them.\u00a0 If by means outside of their control it doesn\u2019t work, well maybe it opened new doors and a new set of drivers.<\/p>\n
Timbercoast is a name for a group of people that truly believe in defying standards and rethinking responsible shipping.\u00a0 In tribute to our 15 current volunteers, for the next 15 days we are sharing examples of companies, organizations and individuals we truly support.\u00a0 On a personal level, I\u2019m doing the same thing on my own facebook page.\u00a0 Give it some thought maybe you know someone that can use the support.<\/p>\n
