AVONTUUR SHIPPING NEWS

Horta, Azores, February 2024

ARRIVAL AT HORTA, FAIAL

The AVONTUUR arrived in Horta at the weekend! It was a rough trip from Philadelphia across the North Atlantic, which demanded a lot from the equipment. Three sails were torn, the main, schooner and outer jib, which now has to be repaired. As the AVONTUUR is constantly underway, the wear and tear is of course significant. We usually cross the Atlantic four times a year and spend 10 to 11 months travelling in winds, salt, tropical heat and icy cold – let someone else try to replicate that. In Horta on Faial, the sails will be made fit again.
The AVONTUUR also supports a school project: a miniboat called ‘Mooo’ is taken on board and later launched at sea. It is a programme run by the non-profit organisation “Educational Passages“, which is committed to spreading marine and environmental knowledge. It is a cultural exchange programme between the USA and the Azores/Portugal that teaches young students about the ocean by building, launching and tracking unmanned, GPS-equipped miniature sailboats (“miniboats”).

RELAXED 1. RUM TASTING IN BREMEN

The first AVONTUUR RUM Tasting Event at Frachtraum Bremen was quickly fully booked and inspired new fans of rum agricole. Captain Cornelius Bockermann presented five different varieties of our sailed rum and talked about sugar cane processing, waves, salt water and much more. Each barrel has its own (pre)history, some unexpectedly remained on board and acquired a very special timbre, which our guests were able to taste for themselves.
And: Yes, don’t worry, we will be offering more rum tastings! Announcements will be made via the newsletter and our website.
